A Bit of History
At one time, a bronze plaque was created whenever HBLA welcomed a new life member. The plaques were mounted on boards displayed in the former HBLA offices on Delaware Avenue. Production of the plaques stopped more than a decade ago, and the existing plaques were placed in storage when the HBLA relocated to the JCC Benderson Building in Getzville.
In 2015, the HBLA Boad of Directors voted to have professional photographs of the plaques taken and deeded to the Jewish Buffalo Archives housed at the University at Buffalo. Unclaimed plaques were sold for their metal content with proceeds benefitting HBLA's loan fund.
